Wellington Dam Murals

So a guy has painted some murals on Wellington Dam. Let’s go and have a look!
The plan is to meet at the Liquor store at the intersection of Nicholson Rd and Thomas Rd in
Oakford for a 9:00 am departure.
The route to the dam will be unsurprising as many of our “usual” roads will be used. Coffee will be
at the Country Kitchen in Waroona.
At the dam we’ll check out the murals from the lookout. There’s some information boards about
the murals. We’ll also see the murals from below when we leave the dam.
From the dam, it’s a short back-road run to Collie, where we’ll have lunch and get fuel if required.
Lunch will be casual. Buy a pie from the bakery or something from the Wagon Cafe and eat in the
park. There are also fast food outlets near by.
We’ll return to Perth via Mornington Rd and the South West Highway etc.
The round trip from Oakford to Perth is about 400 kms. Collie is almost exactly halfway if fuel is
needed.
Interestingly, this is the third attempt to paint a mural on the dam. The earlier attempts were
dismal failures. Experts agree that improved paint technology was a big factor in the success of
this latest effort. That, and the decision to switch to painting on the down-stream side of the wall.
