The "City of Rockingham" includes the suburbs and localities of Rockingham, Palm Beach, Safety Bay, Shoalwater, Hillman, Cooloongup, Port Kennedy, Point Peron, Waikiki, Warnbro, Secret Harbour, Baldivis, Karnup, Golden Bay and Singleton.
Rockingham was one of the earliest settlements in W.A, and is closely associated with Captain Stirling's first landing on Garden Island in 1827 and the early years of the Swan River Settlement. It was surveyed in 1847, and was a thriving town in 1897 when Rockingham split from the Fremantle Roads Board and became a town in its own right.
Point Peron is also known as Cape Peron. Rugged limestone cliffs, reefs and beautiful panoramic views are a feature of this very popular area. During WWII, an observation post for the coastal battery was located on the hilltop, and the old buildings remain. A short climb up to the old observation post will give you spectacular views over Cockburn Sound, and the offshore islands. The lookout can be accessed by a pleasant winding path (no steps), or a fairly steep set of steps for those feeling a little more energetic!
