Leave from Vic Park around 5:00pm, or make your own way there.
  • A Fish & Chips place in Mandurah, at Jetty Fish and Chips, 9 Mandurah Tce, right on the foreshore.
  • Leave Vic Park coffee and head for Mandurah along some back roads.
  • Arrive around 6:15pm.

A Different Eating Experience - with Wayne.
  • Join me for a ride through the hills to Pinjarra for a kebab. Yes a kebab!!
  • We leave East Perth at the usual time of 9:00 am.
  • Morning tea stop in Kelmscott 45km.
  • From Kelmscott we go via Canning Dam, Serpentine and Dwellingup to Pinjarra 147km.
  • Lunch at Pinjarra kebabs, You can find them on facebook and check reviews. Chicken kebab burger with the lot just $13 and you will not need desert.
  • Alternate upmarket eating establishments are available within 30 metres, including subway, chicken treat and Dome.
  • Return from Pinjarra. Either make your own way home or join me as I navigate those lovely roads that Ed uses. ( Corio Kargotich etc)
  • Weather. If its too hot I will defer the ride. Keep an eye on the forum Friday/ Saturday before the ride.
  • Distances to Morning Tea 45, To Pinjarra 192, back to East Perth 279 kms so should be home early afternoon.

    My Favourite Roads Within a Day's Ride of Perth - PART 3: THE EAST.
    From East Perth at 9:00am.

    • **** As the weather on this day is looking like being pretty HOT, I've decided to postpone to a later, cooler date. Stay tuned! ****

      • This is a familiar one to some of you, but I'll never get used to four of the roads in this loop! They can be enjoyed at a relaxed pace or a bit more enthusiastically at dizzying speeds up to and including the speed limit!
      • The road surfaces are pretty good, and there's no getting away from the sweeping bends and the fast-(ish) straights.
      • Distance: ~400kms. Fuel: Plenty along the way.
      • Where to? It's a surprise :-)

    Ride leaves from East Perth at 9 am.
    • A morning ride to the beach, via ... some Northern beaches.
    • Sculpture by the Sea is on at Cottesloe - info on the event available by clicking here.
    • This is a short ride, mostly suburban.
    • We will arrive at Cottesloe before lunch. There are several places to buy food, however, it will be crowded. So if you want to eat there consider bringing something picnicy, or be patient.

    Esperance Ride - 4 day ride.
    Leave from Midvale, Caltex, Gt Eastern Highway, at 8:00am.
    Itinerary:
    • Fri: Perth - Kalgoorlie via York, Bruce Rock, Doodlakine and Merredin, 660km, overnight.
    • Sat: Kalgoorlie to Esperance, 400km, overnight. Late lunch at Condingup.
    • Sun: Esperance to Albany, 480km overnight.
    • Mon: Albany to Perth, 510km, via Mt Barker and the Muirs Hwy to Manjimup, and then home.

    Accommodation:
    • ibis Styles Kalgoorlie - they do have twin share, best to phone them asap. Currently at $116.
    • Esperance - Best Western Hospitality Inn, ring direct. Currently $129 for a double, with a Senior's Card.
    • Albany - Ace Motor Inn, around $108 for a double.

    Some of you may like to join in at various stages of this weekend, eg:
    • Ride part of the way to Kalgoorlie. We will be stopping for morning tea somewhere and then heading towards Merredin.
    • Ride down to Albany to join us on the Sunday, and riding back with us on the Monday.

    • We ride via a selection of delightful roads via Bellevue, Helena Valley, Boya, Darlington, Glen Forrest, Parkerville, Stoneville and Mundaring to arrive at the Mudaring Weir Pub at ~ 9:15am.
    • Parking will be on the road above the Hotel, reserved for us by the management, in order to avoid the tricky business of manoeuvring in the hotel car park.

    • Fuel.. we'll stop at Regans Ford for those that need to top up, approx 180k after departure.

    • Join us on another ride through the SW. We'll be starting at Armadale and taking in the Fergusson Valley, Balingup - Nannup Rd and Graphite Rd on the way to Bridgetown.
    • Sunday's ride home will include breakfast at Boyup Brook, then along Mornington Rd, Nanga Road to lunch at Dwellingup.

    This is after the usual Saturday Coffee meet.
    • Buzz is once more opening her house to host her well-liked and very enjoyable pot luck dinner events.

    ULYSSES 2018 AGM, BARMERA SA
    • Registrations online now.
    • Perth branch members attending the Barmera AGM meet every so often to discuss details for the planned ride.
    • There is still limited accommodation available at the Barmera Country Club.
    • Perth branch riders heading to the Barmera AGM will depart from Caltex Midvale at 8am, Sunday May 6th.
      We will be stopping in Tammin for a cuppa and fuel, plus picking up a member or two for the ride to South Australia.
    • Members not attending the AGM are welcome to join us for the ride to Tammin.

    Ride to Quindanning, with Ed.
    • The ride leaves from East Perth at 9:00 am and heads south to Dwellingup for coffee at the Blue Wren Cafe.
    • Once caffeine levels have been restored, we will head out of town to the east towards Boddington, but because we are going the pretty way, we will take the Lower Hotham Rd and approach Quindanning from the south. They will be surprised!
    • After lunch we will head out to Albany Hwy via Boddington to a fuel stop at the Riverside Roadhouse at Bannister.
    • It is about 235 km from East Perth to the roadhouse at Bannister. If your bike does not have that range, then you can top up at Dwellingup. There is no fuel at Quindanning and Boddington cannot be relied on.
    • We will take Albany Hwy back to Armadale and then make our way home.
    • I will be keeping an eye on the weather. Getting the bike rinsed is OK, but if it looks like we will need snorkels I will postpone it.

    If not raining, leave from East Perth at 8:00am.
    Forecast.
    • Serpentine Dam BBQ area below the dam.
    • Leave East Perth and head for Armadale via Orrong Road, Tonkin Highway and Albany Highway.
    • We collect any "Southerners" from a layby opposite the Narrogin Inne on Albany Highway at around 8:30am.
    • After this we head towards Jarrahdale, but turn off to the dam.
    • BYO everything (including onions) you want to cook, cook with, eat and drink.
    • After the BBQ, head off to wherever you want to go for the rest of the day.

    • Fri: Perth - Mt Magnet, overnighting at Jim Nash' "Miner's Rest". 580km.
    • Sat: Mt Magnet to Kalbarri, wildflowers should be out, overnight. 540km.
    • Sun: Kalbarri to Dongara, overnight, sightseeing along the way. 230km.
    • Mon: 8:00am, Breakfast.
    • Depart for home at about 9a.m. via Mingenew, Three Springs, Carnamah, Moora (lunch at The Drover's Inn).
      Then on to Bindoon and through to Ginger's Roadhouse, Gt Northern Hwy, Upper Swan, where we take a break and go our own ways. 440km.
    • Fuel is readily available along the whole route.

    Fathers Day Ride & Waroona Picnic/BBQ.
    Start point: East Perth, 9:00am.
    • A ride for anyone, but it happens to be Fathers Day, so if you have any, bring along your offspring who ride or pillion.
    • This ride will end with a BYO picnic BBQ, at Waroona.
    • Other branches are looking to join us along the way.
    • Travel up to Pickering Brook via Welshpool Road.
    • Then via Canning Road to its intersection with Brookton Hwy where we hope to meet the Armadale Branch.
    • After that we head for Canning Dam, and then on to Albany Hwy.
    • Continue on to Jarrahdale and turn left to Serpentine Dam, for coffee, a booking has been made for 30, at 10:30am.
    • Off to Dwellingup via South West Hwy and Dell Park Road, and from there via Lane Pool Reserve we take Nanga Brook Rd on to Waroona.
    • The idea is to BBQ and picnic at Drakesbrook Weir. They have BBQs there, but we will likely bring our own BBQ on wheels as a backup. BYO food and drinks.
    • After that, head home at your leisure.

    Memorial Ride - in honour of those who have "ridden on".
    • 2018 Memorial Ride:
    • This year, Joondalup Branch will have the honour of leading the ride.
    • The assembly area is the parking area just West of, and next to Caltex Midvale, on Gt Eastern Hwy.
    • Meeting time will be from 9:30am for departure at 10:30am (sharp).
    • We will be riding as a group to Lake Leschenaultia.
    • A short Memorial service will be held in the gazebo near the lake.
    • All branches are encouraged to stay for a BBQ lunch after the service. Joondalup branch are providing a sausage sizzle for all.

    Mumby Pub Ride.
    Leave from East Perth at 8:30am.
    • This is a fairly long ride, so we will leave East Perth early, at 8:30am.
    • We will travel via Orrong Rd, Tonkin Hwy and Albany Hwy to Armadale where we will stop briefly to regroup.
    • Those that live in the deep south (Jaygee?) may care to join the ride in Armadale from around 9:00am. Prior arrangement with the ride leader is required.
    • From Armadale we head straight down the Albany Highway to Williams for morning tea and a fuel stop (distance from East Perth - approximately 162km).
    • The roads get more interesting (i.e. twisty) from here as we travel via Darkan to Duranillin where we pick up the upper reaches of the Blackwood River.
    • We continue to follow the mighty Blackwood to Dinninup and Boyup Brook.
    • From Boyup we turn right onto the Donnybrook - Boyup Brook Rd and travel another 45km to our lunch destination in Mumballup.
    • Lunch will be at The Mumby Pub (aka The Forrest Tavern) where some traditional pub grub will be available.
    • The Mumby is located on the corner of the Donnybrook - Boyup Brook Rd and the Collie Preston Rd.
    • We have a booking for around 1:00pm.
    • After lunch we will head north to Collie to refuel.
    • From Collie we follow "Pete's Road" (aka Mornington Road) to Wokalup.
    • For those that feel like stretching their legs before returning to the city, there will be an optional coffee stop in Pinjarra.

      • from East Perth - 365km
      • from Williams - 200km
      • to East Perth - 190km
      • Total round trip distance to East Perth is approximately 550km.

    • This ride is a destination ride to Mandurah. We will have a leisurely ride via Perth CBD, Fremantle and Rockingham following the coast. Caffeine and calories will be at Dome which is right on the Mandurah estuary where there is always something happening on a Sunday. The weather will sure to be delightful so consider bringing your partner and making a morning of it.
