• Departing from East Perth 9am for a direct ride to Merredin. Sunday afternoon we will visit the Merredin Rec Centre grounds and later in the evening enjoy a meal at the local Chinese Restaurant.

• Monday morning we will inspect the parade route before heading to the Odyssey venue. After attending a few short informal meetings in the morning we will head back to Perth around noon.

• Steven Kirk left Perth, Scotland, 8 August 2012 to ride from his country of birth to his adopted homeland.
• Steven Kirk is originally from Scotland and has lived in Australia since 1992.
• At around 11 am Steven will arrive at Council House, St Georges Terrace, Perth with 40 Triumph Motorcycle Club members.
• Steven and his 2007 Triumph Tiger Motorbike will have travelled for 4 months, for more than 20,700 kilometres across 19 countries including England, France, Greece, Turkey, Istanbul, India, Pakistan and Iran.

• Three Bees - Beverley, Brookton, Boddington
• Explore some of the great back roads east of Perth on this ride up and over the Darling Ranges.
• Take the Brookton Highway to Westdale then along the twist and turns beside the Dale River to Beverley. After morning tea and to REFUELING; take the highway to Pingelly to turn west to ride cross country to Boddington for Lunch. Heading home it's over the range to Dwellingup, on through the forest to North Dandalup to rejoin the highway at Pinjarra to travel on through Armadale to Perth.

• A Bridgetown too far
• Join Don, Greg and Ed on a ride to Bridgetown and back (of course). Using sheer cunning and a good helping of Mr Google we laid a bunch of the roads that we really fancied riding end-to-end and came up with this ride. Nanga Rd, Coalfields Rd, Balingup/Nannup Rd, Collie/ Mumballup Rd all get a Guernsey. You also get to cross Boyup Brook off your bucket list.
• We haven't forgotten the eating and social side either. Well actually we didn't really consider it, but we plan to stop for coffee and food often enough to prevent Greg from chewing out his helmet liner so you're unlikely to starve.
• We'll be overnighting in Bridgetown. Details are not yet decided but the place is fair groaning with hotels, B&Bs and cottages and it's likely that everyone who comes along will end up booking for themselves. Bridgetown is reputed to have a restaurant or two for Saturday night.
• Basic Plan:
  • Leave from East Perth at 9:00 am Saturday.
  • Ride to Bridgetown via Balingup and Nannup
  • Overnight in Bridgetown followed by breakfast on Sunday morning.
  • Ride back to Perth via Boyup Brook, Mumballup and Collie.
  • The routes down and back will be different although it's impossible to avoid some duplication of SW Hwy. On both days the rides will be between 320 and 350 km

• The Nightshift invites you to take a magical night time ride with them. This Saturday the 20th of April, you may join us for a very adventurous excursion to the north. Our adventure will begin at 5:30 leaving from the Dome. We will finish our journey with a delicious tasty dinner at the Hogs Breath restaurant in Joondalup.

• Merredin Overnighter
• Join Richard Tempest, John Gliddon, Guy Mander and other Merredin Odyssey committee members for a leisurely ride out to Merredin - about 270kms. We will be doing some Odyssey business on the Monday morning.
• You don't have to come all the way or stay overnight. Why not have morning tea with us in York and then do your own ride back to Perth, for instance.
• We'll depart from East Perth at 9:00am, heading through Midland, along Gt Eastern Highway and then turning off right to York. From there it's on to Quairading, Bruce Rock (perhaps a bit of lunch there) and then into Merredin by mid afternoon.
• After meetings etc on Monday morning we'll head back to Perth just before midday, probably the quick way along the highway.
• The Merredin Tourist Park (9041 1535), where we usually stay, is booked out but there may be a few single dongers left which are quite well appointed, I believe. Otherwise there are numerous other motels in town. John Gliddon (0417-945-789) has some info on these.

• A great three day ride up the new coastal highway to Geraldton; then inland over flat fast byways across the northern Wheatbelt to overnight in Moora; and then return to Perth along the twist back roads of the Chittering Valley.

• This will suite those who don't like going out for a full day, or those boys who get nagged by the "missus" to do stuff on a Sunday.

• We'll head up Welshpool Road and through Orchard Country to Mundaring Weir. Great roads, but be careful.
• Then on through Helena Valley to Gidgegannup to sample the delights of the wonderful bakery.
• Having put on a few kilos, we will head home via the Swan Valley.

• Annual Waroona Picnic Ride. Hopefully Kurt will be towing the BBQ trailer.
• BYO Picnic at the Dam site.
• This is a nice little run we do every year, albeit over some familiar roads.
• As long as it doesn't rain, the picnic site below the dam is very pleasant and picturesque.
• Toilet facilities are a bit shabby / non-existent, so plan ahead. Boys can stand in the bush, girls can hold on!
• The run takes us via orchard country / Pickering Brook, along Canning Road and on a great bit of narrow winding road past Canning Dam.
• Then it's up to Jarrahdale for morning tea, followed by the well-trodden tourist route down and back up the scarp to Dwellingup.
• We'll re-group there before tackling the twisties and sweepers on the back way through to Waroona Dam. Will check with Shire to make sure road open.
• The branch's BBQ trailer is going (assuming we can get a tower) and there will be sausages, buns and onions etc provided by the club. BYO drinks and anything else you need.

• "Mystery Ride" -- because some of it is still a mystery to the ride leader.
• This ride should encourage the less experienced looking to extend their skills on some more challenging roads. It's a pretty leisurely run on some interesting roads through beautiful countryside.
• Clues:
  • For the curious among you, here are some clues to our itinerary on Sunday 4/8/13...
  • Departing East Perth at 9ish we'll head out along the road which sounds like it could not be the correct one.
  • Passing along a thoroughfare which could lead to a swimming venue in Cardiff, we'll take the fruit packer's road and look out for an Englishman called Roy.
  • Via an oriental stream with neatly grassed banks we'll turn left at a vineyard and head for a dam (sic) fine road for caffeine and a bikkie at a dam fine hostelry.
  • Re-fuelled we will head off through a "high place on a high place" (aboriginal), taking a road to a rocky town and one that once lead to Newcastle for lunch at an establishment you might expect to find in Atlanta, Georgia."

• Ulysses Branches round the country, indeed round the world, dedicate the 2nd Sunday in September each year as a day of remembrance for those members who have "Ridden On". In most cases this is done in practice by all the Ulysses branches in a given area jointly or independently riding to a place where a short ceremony is conducted to honour those members. The tradition in the greater Perth area is for branches from as far north as Geraldton and as far south as Bunbury and as far east as Kalgoorlie to ride to the park at Lake Leschenaltia, Rosedale Road, Chidlow. There, someone conducts a short memorial service by the banks of the lake, at a monument dedicated by those branches as a permantent marker for this purpose.
• Note: the parklands surrounding Lake Leschenaltia are administered by the Shire of Mundaring. The shire charges an entry fee to enter the grounds. Someone designated by the ride coordinator will often collect the entry fee at the start of the ride and the "treasurer" for the event will pay for the group to expedite entry.

• The current forecast for bad weather on the day means this ride is likely to cancel. However, it will be postponed to a future date. The ride leader plans to be at the start point to let riders know, and might lead a decide and ride should riders wish to adventure out for a bit of cruising.

• Jennacubbine: - country pub tucked away in the wheatbelt.
• The Jenna has an à la carte steakhouse menu.
  • Price range from around $26 for 250 gram Scotch Fillet with salad bar to around $38 for a really big one. Chook and others in between those prices; salad bar by itself is a bit less.

• About Jennacubbine: The town's name derives from the Noongar name for a well in the area, which may mean "salt water" according to some sources and was first recorded by explorer Augustus Gregory in 1848 as "Jenacubine", with the current spelling being adopted in 1889. Jennacubbine was established as a siding on the railway line from Northam to Goomalling in June 1902.

  At this time, Jennacubbine had a hotel, a general store, two other shops, and eight houses in the main street. The main street ended at the front door of the hotel. Several railway huts were constructed on the opposite side of the rail line from the main street, and a Catholic church was constructed in 1905 and was used as a school until 1911. By the 1960s, all that was left was the hotel, the general store and one house.

  In 1970 the general store was burnt to the ground, in a late night fire that was reported to have been caused by the store's old kerosene refrigerators. The store was over 100 years old when it was destroyed. A fire truck from Goomalling attended the fire, but its onboard water tanks were dry from a previous fire, and there was no town water in Jennacubbine.

  Ironically, the state's Water Authority had gazetted that Jennacubbine was to get town water, and pipes had been laid in the ground to the town, but there had been no connections to any building nor any public facilities including fire hydrants.

• Travel north on Mitchell freeway to Burns Beach Road then along the coast to Yanchep for a coffee at the Beach Cafe. For the more adventurous bring your bathers for a quick dip in the ocean before heading of to Lancelin.
• Leaving Yanchep we travel north along Indian Ocean Drive, Gingin Brook Road, Cowalla and Sappers Road to hit the highway 10 kilometres north of Lancelin. Ride back into Lancelin for lunch at the bakery before returning to Perth via the main highways.

• Departing East Perth a bit earlier than usual at 8:30am, we'll take a very circuitous route via some beaut minor roads (not just MWR) to the Mundaring Pub for a sumptuous breakie.
• From the 'Mundie', the above-mentioned 'otherwise-engaged' can return to the bosom of the family for the rest of Sunday while the rest of us roar off into the hinterland for a petrol-powered frolic (within the exigencies of the Traffic Act). • New Norcia - a picturesque destination after winding through some scenic countryside.
• Up West Coast Highway and Marmion Ave for morning tea at Yanchep Beach Lagoon. Then to Wanneroo/Lancelin Road via Two Rocks. Cut across from Wanneroo/Lancelin Road via Observatory to Gingin road. Through Gingin and nearly to Bindoon, then turning onto the Bindoon/Moora Road. Right at Magumber, taking you through to New Norcia for lunch at the pub.
• Return via Great Northern Hwy to Bindoon. After Bindoon, turn off left onto the Chittering Valley circuit. Come out at Bullsbrook and then back through the Swan Valley to home.
