The recent death of a round Australia motorcyclist that died on the Gibb River Road was reported to be from dehydration.

With summer coming on, a long ride on a hot day can cause dehydration without you realising it. I have personally experienced it on a long ride about 10 years ago where I became light headed dizzy and weak after a long ride. The friend I was riding with had similar symptons. Hydration is important for concentration.

The wind created by riding evaporates the sweat and you don?t notice you are dehydrating.

The usual one or two coffees is probably not enough on a ride on a hot day.

Good post, Bruce, and timely with summer coming.
We did just that crossing back on the Eyre Hwy, making sure to drink plenty along the way, not just coffee.
We copped 38 degrees at Ceduna, which can be energy sapping.
