Pelican Point Weekend - plus mystery Ride
    • Camp out with a spectacular view.
    • The venue we are staying at (see map) is for Scouters. There will probably be scouts on site, including youth members, but they won't bother us. However, please remember that we are guests, using their facilities with the blessing of their goodwill.
    • We ask that Ulysses participants make a contribution to our hosts of $5 per person per night. Kurt Mueller, our host/ go-between will receive these contributions.
    • This event starts starts Friday afternoon, but you can come any time from then through Sunday morning.
    • Usually we set up camp and follow up with a Fish'n'Chip dinner. In the past Kurt has collected a set amount per person (last year it was $10.00 per person) for the Fish'n'chips. This year it will need to be higher -- The West Australian yesterday said that potatoes are dearer due to drought shortages and the cost of fish is going through the roof.
Could we please have an indication of numbers (by calling Kurt, or on the discussion forum) so he can contact the fish shop to see if he can try to negotiate a better deal. The $10.00 flat rate equated to 1 serve of fish and chips, but those that were there also feasted on other extras like prawns scallops and other side dishes.
    • There are often members making shared cooked food, such as mini-pizzas for anyone wanting a tasty nibble. Feel free to indulge, and also to offer a contribution for the ingredients.
    • If convenient, do bring other food to share.
    • Saturday: Kurt is working on making available a skippered sailboat for a bit of a sail. For the evening meal, we will follow suit as the same as last year, with everyone bringing something to share. Sooky tells me she will be doing a curry again. The mini-pizzas might be on again. For games: Boulles is good, so are frisbees, and cricket.
    • You will probably need sunscreen and the insect repellent. The Mozzies are big enough to carry away a dog as takeaway! So bring those.
    • Sunday is good for packing up and veging out.
    • Weekend includes a mystery ride.

    Ledge Point
    • LEDGE POINT or bust - If you have never been there before, nor have I, so it should be interesting. My extensive research reveals there is a cafe in this little hamlet so we will do lunch there - or bring your "sarnies", if you like, and sit by the ocean. Leave Midvale meeting point at 9:00am and head up to Gingin for morning tea / coffee at that little old pioneer building in the park there, then onto Gingin Brook Road / Cowallia Road / Sapper Road to meet up with Lancelin Road which takes us into Ledge Point.
    • Return to Perth via Lancelin Road / Wanneroo Road, perhaps stopping at Hillarys Boat Harbour for afternoon tea and break-up to go home.

    Annual Ulysses Memorial Ride
    • Ulysses Branches round the country, indeed round the world, dedicate the 2nd Sunday in September each year as a day of rememberence for those members who have "Ridden On". In most cases this is done in practice by all the Ulysses branches in a given area jointly or independently riding to a place where a short ceremony is conducted to honour those members. The tradition in the greater Perth area is for branches from as far north as Geraldton and as far south as Bunbury and as far east as Kalgoorlie to ride to the park at Lake Lechenaltia, Rosedale Road, Chidlow. There, someone conducts a short memorial service by the banks of the lake, at a monument dedicated by those branches as a permantent marker for this purpose.
    • After an East Perth departure, Perth branch riders will join other branches at Midland between 9.30 am and 10 am, for a 10:30 departure to the lake.
    • Note: the parklands surrounding Lake Lechenaltia are administered by the Shire of Mundaring. The shire charges an entry fee to enter the grounds. Someone designated by the ride coordinator will often collect the entry fee at the start of the ride and the "treasurer" for the event will pay for the group to expedite entry.

    • Members ride independently, or in small groups to the Odyssey location on Friday morning, Friday afternoon, or Saturday morning. Some ride information is available via the main Forum Page. Click Here

    Annual Ulysses Memorial Ride
    • Ulysses Branches round the country, indeed round the world, dedicate the 2nd Sunday in September each year as a day of remembrance for those members who have "Ridden On". In most cases this is done in practice by all the Ulysses branches in a given area jointly or independently riding to a place where a short ceremony is conducted to honour those members. The tradition in the greater Perth area is for branches from as far north as Geraldton and as far south as Bunbury and as far east as Kalgoorlie to ride to the park at Lake Leschenaltia, Rosedale Road, Chidlow. There, someone conducts a short memorial service by the banks of the lake, at a monument dedicated by those branches as a permantent marker for this purpose.
    • Note: the parklands surrounding Lake Leschenaltia are administered by the Shire of Mundaring. The shire charges an entry fee to enter the grounds. Someone designated by the ride coordinator will often collect the entry fee at the start of the ride and the "treasurer" for the event will pay for the group to expedite entry.

      - there will be some variance.

    • Lunch will be at Yanchep Inn inside Yanchep National Park with special views from all of the seating - I'm proposing that we use the beer garden. The people at the Inn are looking forward to our visit and will set up for us when we call them with numbers on the morning. Please let me know if you are going to join the ride from some other point, so firstly we look out for you and secondly include you in the numbers for lunch.
    • This ride will be perfect for those who are pillions and prefer shorter riding and also for riders who are less experienced. I will be Leading the ride and Cheryl will be Tail End Charlie (making sure nobody falls off the end) ably assisted by our bike guidance devices (aka; Peter & Lionel).

    Australia Day BBQ & Fireworks
    • Australia Day - BBQ & Fireworks
    • Veronica Miller is hosting an Australia Day BBQ at her place: 195 Douglas Avenue, Kensington
Which is less than 20 minutes walk from the South Perth foreshore for those who want a good view of the skyshow. We usually start to wander down about half an hour before (7.30 now that daylight saving is no more) and have never had any problem finding a spot. (You /can/ watch from the back yard, but since the trees and the houses grew up the view isn't as good as it was!) I have plenty of off street parking for bikes (and the odd car).
    • Time? Any time really, probably from about 4 pm, bring bathers for the pool if it's hot. We''ll fire up the barbie at about 6. Should be back from the fireworks by 9 for coffee.
    • Road closure information is at http://www.perth.wa.gov.au/skyworks/road_closures.html For those coming across the Narrows, the Mill Point Rd exit will be closed from 3 pm, get off at South Terrace come straight up across Canning Hwy and turn L down Douglas Ave at the Intersection with George St and Hayman Rd.
    • What to bring: Your drinks. I'll do lamb chops and sausages, bread and basic salad. You might like to bring something AUSTRALIAN eg Tim Tams for dessert.
    • So that I have some idea of numbers can you RSVP at v.s.miller@curtin.edu.au (but just turn up if you forget or aren't sure if you can make it). Veronica
